Special Religious Education

In accordance with government legislation, Chatswood High School assigns time for Special Religious Education (SRE) to all students as part of their regular learning.

Christian SRE will be offered to all students at Chatswood High School. These classes involve open discussion and philosophical debate. Students will gain a basic outline of Christian beliefs, develop biblical literacy, interact with other belief systems and undertake studies of contemporary issues in relation to the Christian faith. Local Christian Churches employ a teacher to serve at the school teaching Christian SRE in fortnightly classes for students in years 7-10. In addition whole year or whole school seminars are organised once per term for students to discuss topics such as Easter and Christmas.

Please see the REACH website to see more about it's ministry at Chatswood High School:

Roman Catholic SRE will be offered, to all those identifying as Catholic on enrolment forms, in the format of two seminars per term which are taught by teachers from the local Catholic parish.

A parent/caregiver may withdraw their child from SRE. Students who do not take part in SRE will be expected to do productive private study and will be fully supervised. Regular classes do not run in conflict with SRE.

Where a withdrawal form is not returned, the school will include your child in Christian SRE. At any time, you have the right to change your SRE nomination or withdraw from SRE. A change of SRE form is available from the school office.
