Creative and Performing Arts

The Creative and Performing Arts faculty is committed to the development of the practical and conceptual skills which enrich life through the arts. The faculty provides challenging and effective specialist and artistic education programs and preparation for exciting careers in the arts and associated industries. Students are encouraged to be involved in the many co-curricular and extra-curricular opportunities available to them, and to foster their talents in their chosen fields.

The CAPA courses offered at Chatswood High School are Visual Arts, Music, Drama, Photography and Digital Media, Visual Design and Ceramics.

In senior stage 6 (years 11 & 12) students are offered, Visual Arts, Music 1, Music 2, Extension Music (HSC only), Drama, Photography and Ceramics.

As electives in stage 5 (years 9 & 10) we offer Visual Arts, Music, Drama, Photo and Digital Media and Visual Design.

Music and Visual Arts are mandatory for stage 4 (years 7 & 8).

HSC students in these courses are regularly successful in nominations for exemplary HSC artworks and performances, presented in Art Express, Encore and On Stage. A student-centred focus allows for gifted students to excel and grow through a variety of learning experiences, and to develop their talents to reach their potential

We offer many Extra-Curricular opportunities for our talented students in Creative and Performing Arts. Students can represent our school as a member of our Senior or Junior Concert Band, Wind Orchestra, String Ensembles, Big Bands, Jazz combos, Guitar groups, Choir, Percussion Ensemble, Dance ensembles or they could join our Drama and/or Art Club. Students also have an opportunity to join our News Team. The dedicated teacher’s in this faculty provide many opportunities to showcase student work throughout the year including Performance and exhibition nights held on and off the school site. The CAPA faculty organise regular musicals, performance opportunities and an annual CAPA camp for talented students.
